Multi-Cultural Business Information Week

Invest Ottawa is dedicated to helping entrepreneurs succeed in their business pursuits. As an integral part of the economic development community in the City of Ottawa, we are excited to be working alongside the robust and entrepreneurial multi-cultural business groups in Ottawa.

Invest Ottawa is pleased to offer its “Multi-Cultural Business Information” week, October 9-12, 2012. This series will offer a variety of business seminars in French, Spanish, Mandarin, and Arabic and will be delivered at our new facility at 80 Aberdeen Street just off Preston.

Speaker: Flora (Xiaoping) Wu, Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre
I am Flora Wu, a library settlement worker at Library. I work for Ottawa Chinese Community Service Centre. I work in Nepean Centrepointe Library and Main Library.

My job is to provide services to newcomer, help them settle down in Ottawa. I work with my agency OCCSC and Ottawa Public Library to help newcomers find a job, learn English, French. For children we help them with their Homework, English and French. For parents, we provide them basic information about community and school system; facilitate parenting skills under Canadian context. For seniors, we have lots of program, like learning English, learning computer and other social group to help them settle down in Ottawa. I work with groups, also work with individual. We also refer newcomers to different services available for them in Ottawa.

My education background is Early Childhood Education(B.A.) and Social Worker(MSW). I am very interested in people and how to communicate with people. I work independently also have a strong team support. Thanks Ottawa Public Library and my agency. They give me lots of opportunities and support to find a best way to communicate with newcomers.

Rita Attieh is currently a settlement counsellor with the Lebanese & Arab Social Services Agency (LASSA). She has accumulated several years of experience on the area of settlement, information and orientation. Ms. Attieh has delivered several workshops over the years with demonstrable expertise in the following subject titles: “Canadian Citizenship Test Preparation”, “How to obtain an Ontario Driver’s Licence”, “Services in the community for the Newcomers” and many more benefitting hundreds of newcomers.

Ms. Attieh will speak about the new Citizenship Study Guide “Discover Canada”, Rights and Responsibilities of Canadian Citizenship and How to prepare for the Canadian Citizenship test.

Marc Johnstone es un asesor confiable y experimentado que trabaja para RBC Insurance. Marc estudió y se graduó de la Universidad St. Mary, en Halifax, NS, donde obtuvo su Licenciatura en Comercio. Jorge Gutiérrez es originario de la Ciudad de México, donde desarrolló una exitosa y lucrativa carrera como Licenciado en Derecho, durante 21 años. También fue asesor jurídico, registrado ante la Embajada de Canadá en México, lo que le permitió auxiliar y representar, en materia de derecho corporativo, a varias compañías canadienses. Jorge inmigró a Canadá hace 15 años y desde hace 13, ha trabajado como asesor financiero y de seguros, para RBC Insurance. Jorge tomó los cursos de Certified Financial Planer y obtuvo su designación como Registered Health Undewriter.

Su experiencia combinada, como asesor jurídico en su natal México y como asesor financiero y de seguros con RBC Insurance, le permite ofrecer a sus clientes una asesoría completa, cubriendo la gran mayoría de los ángulos de riesgo, tanto en sus consultas personales como comerciales, sean en español, ingles o francés.
